the other side of the lens

I feel incredibly lucky to be involved in such wonderful community of photographers, here on the island as well as throughout Canada and all over the world. Many of them have grown into very good friends, sharing ideas, dreams, advice and so much more.

As a photographer, I feel the best when I’m behind the camera… shying away from ever being the subject. However, after many conversations with other parents, including my own. I’ve realized how important it is to actually be in the image with my family, so that I exist in future memories. I’ve also fallen in love with my photographer friends work! If you have ever been in my home, you will see many different original artists work hanging on my walls (a degree in the arts has given me the opportunity to keep connections with some amazing artists!). ┬áSo I have made a commitment to myself to fill my walls with not only the images I capture of my family, but to enjoy the beauty of other photographers and how they capture us.

The following images are from the lovely Kim Kufaas Photography. I fell in love with her energy after our first coffee date and tears fell down my cheeks when I received my images from her. Such a sweetheart and beautiful artist. A special little session just for me and Oliver, without me trying to direct daddy.  Thank-you Kim for capturing exactly how I feel for my little favourite little guy xo

Our favourite pumpkin patch visit was at Coastal Black Estate Winery this past October, and we snuck into a fun little session with the talented and fabulous Amanda O’Brennen. SO much fun and silliness. Thank-you Amanda, it is a rare occurrence to have a photo with me and BOTH my boys, smiling without goofy faces. Although I love the goofy faces too.

If you have ever met Erin Wallis, you know that she has the kindest heart. She is always giving back to her community and aside from being an incredible artist and widely published, she is a super nice girl. I do not normally do this, but I had entered a contest, mostly so that I could just share how much a session together with my mom would mean to me. I had no expectations of actually winning, just wanted to share. The stars aligned and my little comment was chosen. Our little session was bursting with emotion and I cannot thank Erin enough. These images will be forever cherished. Thank-you with all of my heart xo

Stephanie - I stumbled upon your website from a photo of your boys on Facebook. Your photography is stunning. I too, understand the issues of always being behind the lens, although my photos don’t look as wonderful. The impact the photo of your mother with her wig off was tremendous. There is obviously so much love between you and reminded me of my relationship with my mother. Thank you for sharing and putting your work out there!
