DISCLAIMER – The following sequence of images documents a live birth.
If you continue to view this post you will inevitably see some photographs of a baby being born.
When I found out Yarrow was pregnant, my heart literally burst! I was beyond happy that she asked me to photograph her baby’s story, pregnancy/birth/newborn. The stars aligned and shortly (a couple hours) after arriving home from a family trip, I received a call from Yarrow that she was in labour!!! WHAT?! I tried not to pace, hesitated on going to get groceries and soon got the word to come to the house. This was going to be the first birth I was to attend after my own birth and I was feeling quite teary on my drive over. I remembered Yarrow telling me there were going to be a few people to help, but had no idea the village of support I was about to be a part of. Husband, midwives, parents, friends… even her young son, it was more than incredible. There were words of encouragement, cool cloths applied, reminders for slow breaths, sips of water, helping hands, heartbeat checking, smiles, laughter and tears. A family. Her village.
Watching your friend go through the pains and calm moments of labour followed by the intense joy of meeting their baby is indescribable. Thank-you Yarrow, for allowing me to document such a beautiful birth story and for allowing me to share. Love you.
