Laura + sweetest smile

My heart is broken that such a beautiful life was taken away today.  Laura Reddy Richter lost her battle with cancer this morning and fought it with everything she had, and as many of you may know, she did it with the most positive attitude and amazing strength.

I met Laura and her family a few weeks ago at the Haig Brown House in Campbell River. Laura was receiving treatment and her close friends and family wanted some images of her together with her husband Eliot and their two little ones, 4 year old Jonah and 2 year old Charlotte. Lucky for me, Laura’s close friend is also a dear friend of mine and I jumped at the chance to meet with this amazing family.

The first thing that struck me as I walked up to Laura was her smile and then the love and light she easily emitted. Her eyes were seriously sparkling. We had such a lovely time, the sun was shining, the kids were playing, smelling flowers and just enjoying each other. I am truly grateful for the time we spent together and the connections that I was able to witness. So many smiles and so much laughter. With the help of our friend Rebecca we had the most wonderful afternoon. I will be forever changed, a beautiful soul was taken far too early.

She will be forever in our hearts.

A special thanks to Sandra from the Haig Brown house, who brought us the most refreshing drinks, so very thoughtful.

Pat Lyons - I knew Laura through her friendship with my late daughter Leslie Lyons during their school years in Port Coquitlam BC. During the 1996 Federal Census, I also got to know Laura’s parents Kathy and Dave as we worked in the same office for 16 weeks in Port Coquitlam. Laura was the creatively inspired thinker of their small group of teenage girlfriends. I remember when Laura smiled, her eyes lit up the room. I admired her love of learning and her passion for preservation and maintaining good stewardship of land, water, and the abundant creatures we share our home with. To Kathy and Dave, I know since Leslie’s passing over 5 years ago; time may not heal all wounds but time does afford the living to reflect on and cherish memories that will remain etched in our hearts forevermore. May God bless you with some sense of comfort knowing that as Laura’s mortal life has departed this world; Laura’s spirit will live on through her children, beloved husband and all who got to know her through all too short years.

Sarah Bundy - Laura was one of my best friends in the entire world. My heart is aching over losing her today. But I’m also so grateful to have spent so much time with her, with our families, living to the fullest in each other’s company, and loving life to it’s fullest. We lost a great friend today, but God gained an angel He apparently needed back, and she will watch over us all with the same beautiful, shining smile on her face. I’ll sorely miss you, Laura, and we love you forever.

Laura was a good friend of mine in high school and we share countless laughs and during home room she’d console me and my “high school” problems. Laura will always be remembers, and never forgotten.
