surprise elopement + candle light

What happens when you think you are going to dinner with the woman you love and two close friends, and you end up getting married? Magic and Beauty.

Did I mention it was in the evening, with only candle light and drizzling rain, at one of my favorite venues in Campbell River BC, Dolphin’s Resort? And when they danced to their song, I could barely focus through my tears. So full of emotion. Perfection.

This is their story.

It was July 2005, there was paddling of a canoe across the lake, fresh strawberries, chilled champagne, a bended knee proposal, joyful tears and a perfect ring. He asked, I said yes, it was bliss.

Then we attempted to plan our wedding. So many times, with so many options, so many dates, so many venues, so many complicated logistics and every time it just did not feel like US. And so we carried on….

We had our baby girl. We bought our home. We renovated (wrong verb tense) said home. We travelled. We started our business. We were living. Life was busy happening. For the most part, still bliss!

And then this winter in one clear moment, I saw on the face of the man I love, just what it would mean for him to call me his wife.

To all three be Tankinks.

It was no longer about an event; it was about the vows, the commitment and oddly, the tradition. And so, thinking only of US, I started to plan a secret elopement…..”
